Flutter aeroelasticity
WebNov 12, 2024 · Nov 12, 2024 at 14:51. Yes indeed, the wings flap up and down more if the engine is positioned closer to the wing tip. But flutter is not the flapping, it is the twisting backwards of the wingtip. The wing bends upwards in flight, the closer to the tip the engine is mounted the higher the wing bending relief. WebFlutter does not have to describe a dynamic instability associated with a fluctuating wake, e.g., panel flutter is the dynamic interaction and instability arising out of the out-of-plane motion of an aircraft panel in relation to surface fluctuating pressures. However, stall flutter does arise from flow separation and its resulting unsteady wake.

Considering aeroelastic flutter, when an eigenfrequency of the wing meets with an aerodynamic frequency, the commonly mentioned solutions make sense: avoid the convergence zone by limiting speed, or by increasing the wing's eigenfrequency trough stiffness, reduced weight, or reduced span. Makes sense, especially if I use the spring …
WebApr 14, 2024 · Dowell analyzed the panel flutter in supersonic airflow using Galerkin’s method, in which the aerodynamic force prediction was based on linear piston theory. The results of the analysis revealed the induced mechanism and evolutionary history of plate aeroelasticity, and gave the critical dynamic pressure of flutter. WebThese results compare well with the results found by Palacios and Epureanu in "An Intrinsic Description of the Nonlinear Aeroelasticity of Very Flexible Wings". Their analysis, …
