WebMar 5, 2013 · Adding some headers will help, and new heads will make a major difference. 'As much power as you can get' into a 289 opens up a lot of crazy doors. Adding 3.20-3.40 gears in the rear end will make the biggest noticeable difference. Adds great seat of the pants launch on acceleration, feels like you just added tons of torque.

WebNov 29, 2009 · Soooo anything in excess of .017" clearance piston top to head, is "CLEARANCE" and can compensate for above and beyond allowable manufacture clearance changes. I run a .031" thick copper gasket, with pistons .003" above deck line. ANd have run them to 9600 RPM, and have not had contact issues. pirate mega thread

Any 302 piston with the smallest valve relief volume that provide clearance for your cam timing events will work. Here are two compression calculators I like.
